The Day-Free Original Size is an A6 size monthly techo that is split into two main parts: monthly calendars and a graph-paper notebook. The book fits nicely into covers designed for the standard Hobonichi Techo Original.
Because the book is half the size of the full-year Original, it’s also light and portable.
The monthly calendar is the same calendar you’ll find in the standard Original book, designed with graph paper to make it easy to use. The 2023 edition will contain entries for December 2022 through March 2024.
The blank graph paper notebook contains a total of 171 pages and is comprised of 3.7 mm squares. Each page is numbered.
You can fill in as much as you want at a time without feeling constricted to dates. Keep a journal, draw a picture or graph, paste in ticket stubs, scribble on the pages, and fill the pages with capricious whims or meticulous plans — it’s all up to you.
The Day-Free blank notebook section includes the Hobonichi Techo’s characteristic daily quotes in Japanese.
The bottom right corner of each spread features a flipbook comic titled “One Pencil,” illustrated by 100%ORANGE.
(See the Exploring Each Type page for more details.)
The Hobonichi Techo Day-Free has special stitch-binding that allows the book to lay completely flat without having to hold it down.
Starting with the 2023 edition, we changed the packaging from plastic to paper. You can take a peek at the techo book from the window.
When you purchase your Hobonichi Techo through the online Hobonichi Store, you will receive a free 2023-edition (navy x brown pen body) Hobonichi Store exclusive 3-color Jetstream ballpoint pen (available while supplies last).
Although you can use the book on its own, you can pair it with a cover of your choice from our large selection of convenient A6 size Hobonichi Techo covers.
You can also try out covers that are designed to give the Day-Free a snug fit: BS Lite (Black) and BS Lite (Blue).

In order to provide you with the most satisfaction for your product, we've compiled a list of warnings, potential issues, and tips to keep in mind for this particular product. Please be sure to read this information carefully before placing your order.
The Hobonichi Techo's Tomoe River paper is designed to prevent bleed-through, but some fountain pens and water-based ink pens are not compatible with this paper. When switching to a new pen, we recommend testing the pen somewhere in the book, such as the back memo pages, to see if the ink bleeds through or takes an especially long time to dry.
Please note that we will not replace the packaging for the products if it has rips or damage.
