Eiji MitookaNight RoadHON / A6 Size / Monday-Start Week

Making its debut in the Hobonichi Techo 2023 lineup is the Hobonichi Techo HON, which has a hardcover design already attached to the book. It’s designed to make you feel like you’re carrying around a favorite book, which you can pull out at any time to make notes no matter where you are. The book has A6 size pages and features a page per day, so the contents are the same as the Japanese-language Hobonichi Techo Original.

The Night Road design is a collaboration with Eiji Mitooka, who designs railway cars and train station buildings including the Seven Stars in Kyushu deluxe sleeping car excursion train. We've gone through his vast collection of textiles and chosen an illustration that worked well with the HON.

The warm-colored borderlines of Night Road look like both a night view and a layer of rock in the earth. Mitooka designs use bold colors, and here they help establish the atmosphere of a mass market book. The year 2023 is written vertically in kanji characters.

This textile design is used in the train seats of the 305 series commuter train from the JR Kyushu Chikuhi Line.

The HON has two attached bookmarks—one navy and one beige—so you can mark your place in frequently used pages.

The original artwork is quite large, with colorful lines stacked vertically against each other. For this book cover, we've cropped the design into the parts that were best-suited for the HON book cover. The color scheme varies between the front and back covers of the book, and both are spotted with areas that look like rocks or trees. The mysterious look of this design gives it a charm that stirs the imagination of anyone who sees it.

The bright red book spine is vertically foil-pressed in gold with the year 2023 in kanji characters and the HON logo for easy reference when placed in your bookshelf alongside other books.

The endpaper is printed with a repeating pattern of the HON name.

Just like the Hobonichi Techo Original, the HON opens flat 180 degrees so you can use it comfortably without having to hold the pages down.

To celebrate the HON’s debut in the Hobonichi Techo 2023 lineup, we’ve included a special pencil board with an original design. The A6 size pencil board is translucent with a 5mm graph design printed onto it. It also has measurements in increments of 1 mm printed along the side so you can use the pencil board as a ruler. This pencil board is an all-new type that includes a place to store a ballpoint pen by its clip, so you can bring the pencil board and pen wherever you take your HON.

When you purchase this techo through the Hobonichi Techo Official Website, you will receive free Hobonichi Store exclusives: the 3-Color Jetstream Ballpoint Pen (with a brown and navy pen body for 2023) and the Almost-Precious Item Bag.

Please Read Before You Buy

In order to provide you with the most satisfaction for your product, we've compiled a list of warnings, potential issues, and tips to keep in mind for this particular product. Please be sure to read this information carefully before placing your order.

Test fountain pens before regular use

The Hobonichi Techo's Tomoe River paper is designed to prevent bleed-through, but some fountain pens and water-based ink pens are not compatible with this paper. When switching to a new pen, we recommend testing the pen somewhere in the book, such as the back memo pages, to see if the ink bleeds through or takes an especially long time to dry.

Characteristics of materials and product design may result in white spots on the edges and corners of the front and back.

Characteristics of materials and product design may result in white spots on the edges and corners of the front and back. The corners of the cover contain light traces of press marks, shines, and lumps. This is an unavoidable part of the manufacturing process.

Not for use with Hobonichi Techo covers or the Cover on Cover

The cover of the HON book is thicker and sturdier than the standard Hobonichi Techo Original/Planner, so it will not fit into a Hobonichi Techo cover. The Cover on Cover will also not fit onto the HON book, so please avoid forcing them onto the book in order to prevent damage.
