This selection of 5 books allows readers to enjoy the world of art even further when carrying this alongside the Hobonichi Techo Weeks book, Maha Art Techo.
La toile du paradis (Shinchosha)
What is the secret that Henri Rousseau and Picasso held all their lives? Written 25 years after its original conception, Harada based this art mystery novel on her experience working at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This book won many awards, including the 25th Shugoro Yamamoto Award.
Une table de Giverny (Shueisha)
This book of four stories depicts the struggles of Impressionist artists and the earnest approach they take to their work. Artists covered include Matisse, Picasso, Degas, Cezanne, and Monet.
Permanent Collection (Shinchosha)
This collection of short stories revolves around the theme of permanent exhibitions, which will always be there anytime you go to a museum. The story touches upon six real paintings by Picasso, Vermeer, Raphael, Van Gogh, Matisse, and Kaii Higashiyama.
The Modern (Shueisha)
This collection of five short stories is set in New York’s museum of Modern Art, which houses the works of 20th century masters such as Picasso, Matisse, Rousseau, and Wyeth. The stories illustrate the dreams, anguish, and life decisions of the characters.
A Piece of Your Life (Gentosha)
This collection of six stories depicts passersby who stop at a turning point in their lives, encounter a particular painting, and then go on with their lives. The stories include paintings by Van Gogh, Picasso, Cézanne, Klimt, Kaii Higashiyama, and Monet.
Permanent Collection and A Piece of Your Life include art museums of Japan and famous paintings that belong to them, so those books are especially enjoyable alongside the Maha Art Techo as a pair of guides to Maha’s favorite art museums.
