These washi tape stickers are vertically printed with omikuji fortunes and and amidakuji, a Japanese method of making random decisions.
Washida Daigaku was launched five years ago by a washi paper seller founded in 1948 in Osaka. The company wanted to explore and introduce new ways for people to enjoy washi paper and created the new brand with the motto “practical and useless.” The stickers and washi tape have fun and silly designs. The material is thin yet strong, and its beautiful, slight transparency and the warm look of the fibers on the hand-ripped edges provide the full charm of washi paper.
The Omikuji designs contain nine of the results found in fortune-telling charms available at Japanese temples:
大吉 - great blessing
中吉 - middle blessing
小吉 - small blessing
吉 - blessing
半吉 - half-blessing
末吉 - future blessing
末小吉 - future small blessing
凶 - curse
大凶 - great curse
You can play with these stickers by pasting them on your daily pages, putting them on a message to a friend, or sticking them on gifts when handing them out to several people to add a little fun.
The Amidakuji design replicates that of the popular Japanese pencil-and-paper game. Each person chooses a line at the top and follows the path downward, taking every single turn until they reach a randomly-assigned result at the bottom.
This particular design contains four lines to choose from. If you’ve got a decision to make, add some fun to the process by pulling out this tape, cutting it into a random length, and writing options at the bottom before picking which line at the top you’ll follow down. You can stick this tape around letters or messages to others, or use it in any way your imagination can come up with.
