免税手续须知

Tax free shopping is available at Tobichi Tokyo/Kyoto for international visitors. In addition to tourists, Japanese nationals who live overseas and are visiting Japan are also eligible for tax-free shopping. Please see below for eligible products and eligible customers.

Eligible Products

All products on sale at Tobichi are eligible for tax-free shopping.

Purchases with a total between 5,000 yen and 500,000 yen are eligible. Please confirm the total cost of your order before checking out.

Eligible Customers

Tax-free purchases are available to temporary visitors, such as tourists visiting from outside Japan. Customers who live in Japan or have been in the country for over 6 months are not eligible for tax-free shopping.

Instructions

Please present your passport at the register when completing your purchase.

We will handle the tax-free process during checkout and receive the payment amount with the tax subtracted.

When the process is complete, we will return your passport and sealed products. Please present your passport to customs officials upon leaving the country. Before leaving Japan, be sure not to open products you’ve purchased tax-free.

If the shop is especially busy, we may have you wait for other customers before processing your tax-free order. Please leave plenty of time open when visiting for tax-free shopping.

Q: Can I process a return or exchange for tax-free purchases?

A: Returns and exchanges cannot be processed for products that have been purchased tax-free. Please double-check before completing these purchases.

Q: Can I retroactively apply tax exemption to previously purchased items?

A: Tax exemption is processed at the time of purchase, so this cannot be applied to completed purchases.

Q: What if I forget to bring my passport?

A: If you’ve forgotten to bring your passport, or your passport does not have an entry stamp in it, we cannot process the tax exemption process. If you would like to shop tax-free, be sure to have your passport on hand.

Q: Can I use a credit card?

A: Yes you can. We accept the following cards: Visa, MasterCard, JCB, American Express, Diners, Discover
*We cannot accept UnionPay cards.

Q: Can I send my purchase overseas?

A: Tobichi does not offer international shipping services.

Q: If my purchase is under 500,000 yen, can I buy many of the same product?

A: Merchandise may have a limited maximum quantity per customer. Hobonichi Techo covers often have a limit, so if you would like to purchase a large number of items, please check with staff first. Products can only be tax-free if they are purchased for personal use by the customer. Products intended for resale or business use are not eligible for tax exemption.
